The Tennessee Volunteers and Virginia Tech Hokies are facing off in the Battle at Bristol today (September 10th) at Bristol Motor Speedway located in Bristol, Tennessee. The game will be shown at 8PM on ABC, and event organizers hope to attract 150,000 fans or more to the game. If they do, this will be the largest crowd ever to watch a college football game. Both the Vols and Hokies enter the game with a 1-0 record from the first week of the college football season and are looking to get a big win over a non-conference foe tonight to continue to build their team’s case for a big bowl game or for what fans hope may be an appearance in the college football playoff at the end of the year.
Where is Bristol Motor Speedway?
Bristol Motor Speedway is located in east Tennessee in the town of Bristol. Best known for its short NASCAR track that opened in 1961, this will be the first football game played at the facility since a NFL preseason game was held there in the opening year of the track. In order to make best use of the football field constructed on the infield of the track, there will be another game played at the facility on September 17th featuring East Tennessee State taking on Western Carolina. That game is being called the “Bucs at Bristol” after the East Tennessee State Buccaneers mascot.
