When will the 2016 Rio Opening Ceremony Take Place?

The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 5th, 2016 in the Maracanã stadium in Rio. For fans watching the action of the 2016 Rio Games in the United States, the opening ceremony will be shown on a one hour delay in order for the major networks to add their desired production effects and commentary.

The 2016 Rio Games will feature a total of 28 sports consisting of 41 disciplines and 306 total events. For the 2016 Games, the better known sports include: Aquatics: Diving, Swimming, and Synchronized swimming, Water polo, Archery, badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Canoeing Slalom, Cycling BMX, Mountain biking, Equestrian Dressage , Fencing, Field hockey, Football (soccer for American fans),Golf, Gymnastics Artistic, Handball, Judo, Modern pentathlon, Rowing, Rugby sevens, Sailing, Shooting, Table tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Beach volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling Freestyle, and Greco-Roman Wrestling.

What Time Zone are the Brazil Games being Played in?

The 2016 Rio Games are being played three hours behind Zulu time, or one hour ahead of U.S. Eastern Time. There are a number of events planned to start late into the evening during the games that will result in many teams doing specific training regimes to have their athletes conditioned to compete at starting times as late as 10:30PM in the evening as compared to more traditional competition times. Some of these include the swimming finals that will start at 10PM (2200) and some beach volleyball matches that may not commence until as late as midnight on their scheduled days of competition.
