Thon is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2016 NBA Draft. One of the biggest questions regarding his draft status is exactly how old he is! For those who have not followed Thon much in the leadup to the 2016 NBA Draft, he is a 7ft 1inch center that was originally born in South Sudan at some point around 1997. When he was just five years old, he was able to escape to Uganda with his aunt and younger brother and then later onwards to Perth, Australia. When was Thon Maker First Discovered?
When maker was 14, he was first discovered while playing soccer by Edward Smith. Smith had previously helped two other immigrants from Sudan make their way to U.S. colleges for basketball. He would then make his way to the United States and would attend to two different prep schools before landing in Ontario, Canada. He actually had to petition the NBA to enter the draft this year, since he is not technically a year removed from high school being from the class of 2016.

Did the Question’s about Thon Maker’s Age Hurt his Draft Stock?
Well, prior to the 2016 NBA Draft kicking off, the conventional wisdom said that Maker’s draft stock was taking an up to a 10 to 15 position hit based on the questions regarding his age. At the end of the day, Milwaukee did their own due diligence and chose to select Thon Maker with the 10th overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft. We will all just have to wait and see how he transitions to the NBA, and how quickly he transitions to the NBA style of play.
