2016 MLB Draft Results

The 2016 MLB Draft kicked off on June 9th, 2016 and the overall results for the opening two rounds are listed below. The Philadelphia Phillies had the first overall pick in the draft and selected High School outfielder Mickey Moniak with the pick. The LA Dodgers received the 36th overall pick in the draft for compensation for failing to sign Kyle Funkhouse with the 35th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. The first six picks in the Competitive Balance Lottery (Round A) were awarded to the Reds, A’s, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Marlins, and Pirates. 2016 MLB Draft Lottery Round A

For the 2016 MLB Draft, there are six additional draft selections added to the end of both the first and second rounds as part of the MLB Competitive Balance Lottery. The teams in one of the 10 smallest markets or 10 smallest revenue pools are eligible for the picks. Also, clubs that get revenue-sharing funds are eligible for these picks as well. MLB does allow these picks to be traded amongst clubs.
