The 2016 AP All American basketball team has been announced. The selections by the AP were interesting to see the differences in the values rewarded for excellence during the 2015-16 NCAA Men’s Basketball season as compared to the potential valued by the 2016 NBA Draft. Some notable selections to the AP All American First Team include Buddy Hield from Oklahoma, Denzel Valentine from Michigan State, and Tyler Ulis from Kentucky. Ulis was the shortest player selected to the first team since Johnny O’Brien of Seattle in 1953. Of note, LSU’s Ben Simmons who will be the likely #1 or #2 choice in the 2016 NBA Draft was not chosen to the first team. Instead, he was selected to the second team. The national media panel who selects the team made Vaentine and Hield unanimous selections for this year’s team.
