2006 NBA Draft Results

The 2006 NBA Draft was held at the Theater located at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York, New York on June 28th, 2006. ESPN carried the draft which was the first and only time that the New Orleans Hornets would draft as the combined New Orleans / Oklahoma City Hornets name due to the city of New Orleans continuing to recover from the impact of Hurricane Katrina. The Toronto Raptors selected Italian star, Andrea Bargnani with the first overall pick with Brandon Roy being taken with the sixth overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves. His draft rights would then be traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on the same day. Portland also acquired the rights to the second overall pick, LaMarcus Aldridge from the Chicago Bulls. During the 2006 NBA Draft, UCONN became the first U.S. college to have five total players taken in a two round NBA Draft.
